Why 97% of Home Business Owners Fail

Many people have dreams of starting a home based business and retiring early. Yet, only 3% actually succeed. Why is the other 97% of home business owners are failing? There are several reasons that I would like to address.

1. Selling. Let’s face it. Many people who want to start a home business are required to sell products. The problem is, most people are not sales people. While there are a few people who could sell ice to an eskimo, others couldn’t sell a thing even if it were free.

2. Recruiting. Most business opportunities require new business owners to recruit others into their business. Again, most people don’t know how to go about doing this, much less getting their own family and friends to join.

3. Making phone calls. Believe it or not, most people are afraid to pick up the telephone, because the thought of being rejected frightens them. Others don’t want to make phone calls, because they already have full time jobs and families and don’t have the time to pick up the phone and make hundreds of phone calls to people they don’t even know.

4. Lead generation. Let’s face it. When a person decides to join a home business, they have a difficult time generating leads and getting traffic to their websites. Without quality leads, your business may as well not exist, because no traffic equals no leads. No leads equal no sales.

In rare instances, there are programs called passive income programs that appear on the internet where members can join and earn a little money without having to sell products or recruit others to join. However, extreme caution should be taken when investigating these types of business opportunities, because many of the program administrators prey on “the little guy,” making promises that they don’t keep.

When considering a home business, you must first DO YOUR HOMEWORK! There are so many scams online and offline and if you are not experienced, you could easily become a victim. Anything that promises that you will get rich quick or that you will get rich quick simply sitting on your butt is clearly a scam.

Consider your budget. How much are you willing and able to invest in your home business? Then, once you decide to join that home business, how much money are you willing to set aside for your advertising budget each month? If you are planning to become successful in your business, advertising and marketing is essential and will determine whether you fail or succeed.
